In the same vein, having Lynette ( Felicity Huffman) save Gabrielle’s ( Eva Longoria) youngest daughter from the plane and thereby salvaging their damaged friendship unfortunately felt more contrived than anything else. The character himself was never all that likable or interesting, so it didn’t feel like the tragic event they were going for. Sure, it was sad watching Orson ( Kyle McLachlan) be confined to a wheelchair and hearing that Karl ( Richard Burgi) didn’t survive, but Karl’s return to prominence in Season 6 by entering into an affair with Bree ( Marcia Cross) again felt like a “what else can we do here?” bid for ratings. Indeed, this year was perhaps when the writers realized they might not have many more moments in the sun to do whatever they wanted and get away with it, so Season 6’s disaster episode-a plane crashes onto Wisteria Lane during a holiday block party-seemed like a last ditch effort to get viewers to pay attention the way they had during the series’ earlier seasons.Īlthough it did have a far-reaching impact similar to previous disasters, it was hard to care as much.
